COVID-19 & School Closures
COVID-19 caused schools to shut their doors—putting teachers and district staff in untread waters. Some students view school as a routinely safe space. Students were left without the tools and resources they needed to learn, but also to maintain their wellbeing.
School Districts need to efficiently determine which students already had tablets or other devices to work on, access to Wi-Fi, needed school lunches, etc.
Jets & MUSD
Madera Unified School District (MUSD) needed to re-establish connection with students and assess whether or not students had access to high-speed internet. With schools being shut down, it was imperative that they found new ways to communicate with parents and students.
We created software that made it easy for MUSD to assess what their students need via a completely customizable survey. The data obtained from our software allowed them to make informed decisions—getting the necessary tools in student’s hands for successful learning from home. The data obtained has also been used to create plans to address student needs around food and other social and developmental needs.
Our app worked together with Blackboard to push out emails or SMS messages, using existing student/parent data, to collect information from student families. Through our app, the staff was able to view and filter that information. The tool allowed teachers to call families who didn’t respond and fill out the survey. With this data, MUSD was able to instantly identify students who did not have access to the internet at home. Then they contacted internet service providers. These companies connected students with internet hotspots—so they could continue their learning from home.

Our goal with this software is to assist school districts in obtaining the information needed to keep students learning, and support student wellbeing. We have reached out to other school districts, and have received positive responses to The Survey Status Dashboard we created for MUSD.
This tool can assist districts in asking students/parents any questions a school district needs answered, while putting the data gathered from the communications in an easy to read dashboard for staff–down to the school site level.
The Survey Status Dashboard makes it easier for school staff to determine student needs. We’re hoping to get some communication and coordination across organizations to respond to our communities’ needs as effectively as possible.
We do the heavy lifting—giving school staff an easy to view dashboard that will save district employees valuable time. We are bridging the gap in communication, and helping get education back into student lives.
